Couples are turning to kinky sex to save their relationships: survey

Is there an impasse in your relationship? You are not alone.

Couples are exploring kinky sex in a bid to save their relationships, according to a new survey.

In a new State of Intimacy 2024 report from Arya, a personalized erotic concierge site for partners, 35% of its users revealed they want to explore kink.

As people are becoming more and more open to expanding beyond missionaries, the top three things couples want to get under the sheets are sensual play, bondage and oral sex.

But it’s not just chains and whips that excite them.

Many of the 100,000 respondents noted that they want to combine the more romantic and sensual styles of play, mixing passion with experimentation.

And it seems to be hitting the spot.

Couples who experimented with new sexual experiences, including orgasm, reported higher levels of satisfaction in their relationships.

About 73% of users said they felt closer to their partner after exploring eroticism.

The experimentation led to superior sex lives for its users, according to the Arya app. Arya

And while the app is available to all couples, there’s a group rushing to improve things.

Millennial women in heterosexual relationships make up Arya’s largest sign-up demographic, but their male partners are more likely to continue to engage with the app.

“It may be that curated erotic play is the bridge women need between empowerment and communicating their needs,” said Dr. Laurie Mintz, author of “Becoming Literate: Why Orgasm Equality Matters—and How to Achieve It,” explained in a statement.

“We know that pleasing women is important to most men, but given the ‘long orgasm gap’ and higher rates of sexual dissatisfaction among women, it’s clear that men are misled by societal assumptions that what ‘good sex’ looks like for women.

“The truth is, men want guidance and information on how to be better lovers.”

Variety that includes kink and sensuality is a desirable goal for partners. Arya

But it’s not just couples who are getting weird. Singles are also increasingly getting into it.

Feeld, a dating app “for open-minded individuals,” has seen monthly active users grow 190% and paid memberships grow 550%, Fast Company reported earlier this year.

However, fetishists are now complaining that the app has become too mainstream as it is being infiltrated by “vanilla” heterosexual men looking for casual, basic sex – and putting more women at risk.
